Hullabaloo Recap

Whoa it looks like I needed an extra day to get my head back together after the weekend. The Hullabaloo was so fun! Day 1 was a little busier than Day 2 but that is expected with two day shows.

First, let's start with my loot!

Hullabaloo Recap

Two bars of soap from Hudson Naturals, who I included in my Hudson Valley Holiday Gift Guide last week, a Lavender Body Spray from Eco Skin Essentials and a t-shirt from artist Adam Lauricella from Graceland Tattoo.

Obligatory booth shots with a cameo from my neighbor Cindy from Cynla - folks were loving her cards which she does all of the artwork for.

Super pretty right?

Hullabaloo Recap

And we had a SNOW QUEEN! Actually there were two of them walking around all weekend as this year's mascots, The Winter Spirits.  The kids loved them.   This is Anna Rexia and she is super awesome.

It was a good weekend overall.  The selection of vendors was awesome and I was happy to be included.  Decent sales and alot of positive feedback from the people checking it out.  This is a show I hope to continue doing because the organizers (Danielle & Courtney) really do such an amazing job.  They should host a workshop of how to organize and run a successful craft fair. :)

We're expecting a big snow storm tomorrow morning which is putting a damper on my travel plans.  We were gonna head down to the city for Thanksgiving but if we can't drive to the train station, that could be a problem. Maybe snow pictures to come???

I don't know if I'll be updating again this week so if you're reading this, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Holiday Gift Guide 2014: Hudson Valley - Shop Local

Pulp Sushi Holiday Gift Guide 2014

Today's gift guide is dedicated to the local artists, makers and shakers that live in the Hudson Valley of New York. I feel more creative and artistically inspired living here than I ever did growing up in NYC. Fact.

LmI absolutely love the work of L and M Studio from Catskill, NY.  Their clean, slick, modern design can still work with any decor.

I discovered Outlaw Franky on Instagram from Plattekill, NY.  They create luxury goods for the home from candles, pillows, and throw blankets, soft and cozy!

I am easily mesmerized by pretty fabrics even though I don't sew ever.  Thank goodness for Dewey Howard from Tuxedo Park who brings an exciting collection of hand silk screened note cards, artist prints, journals, and home accessories. You can also visit their site at

I feature a lot of my favorite handmade soap regulars on my blog.  I'm always excited to discover a new one and local at that.  Hudson Naturals (Gardiner, NY) make their soap with 100% unrefined Avocado Oil!

Wishbone Letterpress is a wife and husband duo (Danielle & Joe) and may be one of my favorite businesses to follow in the Hudson Valley working out of Kingston (which is the new Brooklyn??).  Plus Danielle is one of the founders of the Hudson Valley Hullabaloo so woohoo to you!  Speaking of Hullabaloo, it's this weekend!

Talk about shopping local! This two day event in Kingston will be blast and I am so excited to be a vendor.  I'll be ending things on the blog early this week as I get ready so have a great weekend everyone and I'll check back with you on  Monday!

My New Tattoo!

Last week I mentioned treating myself to an early birthday present but I was hush hush about it. I got a new tattoo this past weekend! My tribute to my love of coffee.

My New Tattoo!

No joke!  I have been wanting a coffee related tattoo for a couple of years now but it had to be just right. I've made some bad tattoo decisions when I was younger so when I make such a committment now, I have to give it a lot of thought.  I found the right artist for it too! His name is Cookie and he works out of Graceland Tattoo in Wappingers Falls, NY.  We both share the same birthday!

My New Tattoo!

Awkward selfie.

My New Tattoo!

My view for most of the session.  Mike looking at his phone but check out that decor. That couch!! It's a gorgeous space overall. I should have taken more pictures but I was feeling anxious while waiting.  I plan to get a few more on my left arm.

I've been wanting my arm tattooed ever since I was younger but I didn't because I worked in offices and back then that kind of stuff was frowned upon.  So most of my tattoos are on my back and ankles.  I had one job where I really had to do what I could to not show my ankle tattoos, that was annoying.  But now that I'm home I can do what I want.

The attitude towards tattoos has changed so much in the last 10 years that you'll probably see more tattoos in a corporate setting now.  Nothing wrong with that, I think it's great. Just make good decisions before you commit.  There's too many bad/ugly tattoos out there.

Holiday Visit With

Pulp Sushi loves

It's so nice to have some pretty flowers to look at while you work. I use to buy flowers for myself more when I was working in the city. There is a flower stand in Grand Central that always had pretty flowers you can just grab and go while getting to your train.  Those days are over, but when I was contacted by about checking out their service, I thought "Sweet!!!"

I picked their Dawn bouquet because something about the colors of the roses made me think of my favorite color shade of fall, remember this picture I shared last month?  Same colors am I right?

They have a special going on right now for Fall and Thanksgiving - just send at least two bouquets to friends and family and get $10 off your next order. It's a great option if you have friends or family you won't be able to see during the holidays to let them know you're still thinking of them.

Meet Mindful Matters Jewelry

Today I'd like you to meet one of my sponsors - Mindful Matters Jewelry Design.  Mindful Matters is an artisan jewelry boutique featuring handmade Polymer Clay Jewelry, Mixed Metal Jewelry and unique Modern Art Jewelry & Accessories.

Diane is a chemist who loves working with her hands and has been making jewelry since she was a teenager. In time, her craft has developed into uniquely beautiful, one-of-a-kind polymer clay and metal jewelry pieces.

I tried my hand in making polymer clay jewelry recently and it kind of failed lol!  I can definitely appreciate when I see beautiful detail put into work such as Mindful Matters jewelry.

If you would like to treat yourself, or know of someone that you are shopping for who would love a some OOAK jewelry, Pulp Sushi readers can use coupon code SUSHI15 for a 15% discount in their shop.

Holiday Gift Guide 2014: Gifts For Men

Despite popular belief, men do not have to be hard to shop for.  I didn't want to get all nitch on you and target the sports fanatic or Star Wars historian but I think these ideas can cater to a range of fellas.

How about a Spirited Cheers Flask to quench their thirst? Not saying they have a problem or anything, it doesn't HAVE to contain alcohol ya know? They can even keep it empty and just pretend. It looks cool! ;)

Maybe you know a guy who is letting their beard grow for November, that's cool, but it can get a little out of control if not groomed around the edges. Use the good stuff from Dirty Deeds Soap with yummy scents like Lavender Sage, Vanilla Sandalwood, Wintermint Ale, and more. Ladies like their men to smell good, not like cigarettes and sweat.

You can never go wrong with a cool Vintage gift.  It's unique, has history, and can still be functional like these Vintage Wood Cigar Boxes from Haven Vintage

A great practical gift for the man always on the go is a water bottle. I thought of this the other day when I saw Mike's water bottle in the refrigerator. He takes it to work with him everyday. I found a cool Harmony Water Bottle from Wild and Wolf.

Feel like making a gift? A Beautiful Mess posted a really cool tutorial last week on how to make a Leather Mason Jar Sleeve

Is Your Blog Responsive?

I'm here with a PSA for all my blogging friends in case you haven't heard about this neat site. One of the perks of working for Typepad is I get to hear about cool little tools like  It can quickly show you if your website design is Responsive.

Responsive design provides easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing and scrolling whether you're looking at a site on a phone, tablet, or desktop.  With my old blog layout, when I viewed my blog on my iPhone, it just appeared as a mini-version of my blog where I had to zoom in just to read the text.  Then I switched to one of Typepad's new Responsive themes because I wanted my blog to be easy to read on multiple devices.

I'm much happier with how my blog functions now.  If you're wondering the same with your blog, give a try -  it takes seconds and no sign-up required.
