It's My Etsy Anniversary Too

It's a big year for Etsy as they celebrate 10 years being in business. I opened my shop a year after they launched on June 29, 2006 and had my first sale a couple of weeks later.

Screen Shot 2015-06-23 at 9.31.20 AMIt wasn't even jewelry! It was a small notepad where I changed the cover using some funky stock paper.  I didn't stick to stationery. I tried a couple of things before the jewelry took off.  I've come a long way!

Screen Shot 2015-06-23 at 9.37.01 AMIf you've been reading this blog for a while then you know there were times where I was ready to throw in the towel.  Many frustrations, changes on Etsy's site, people bitching about those changes (myself included) but I'm still here.

A lot of great things happened thanks to Etsy including making new friends, finding a local community to be a part of, blogging friends, and has helped ME become a better business person.  I never thought I would have my own business and see my items sold in stores.

My first craft fair ever was with the Etsy NY team and I remember how excited I was when I sold my first item.  I've already sold stuff online but never in person before.  It was a pair of big red, plastic hoop earrings for $8.00.  I was so stoked that someone wanted to give me cash for something I made!

So I'm still here, chugging along treating my Etsy shop as my main shop.  I still have Storenvy and Aftcra but who am I kidding, Etsy is the bread winner for me.

Now Available At Newburgh Mercantile

I am so excited to announce that I now have jewelry for sale at Newburgh Mercantile in Newburgh, NY.   Newburgh is just across the river from Beacon and very easy to get to.  Newburgh Mercantile is a pop-up boutique within a framing shop specializing in local, unique, handmade gifts and decor ideas.

Newburgh has been going through a lot of changes for the better in the last couple of years and new businesses are coming to the area, Newburgh Mercantile being one of them. I am happy to play just a teeny weeny small part in that.

Newburgh Mercantile is located at 75 Broadway, Newburgh, NY in Orange County.  You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.   They are also one of the organizers of Newburgh Illuminated which is going on this weekend celebrating Newburgh's 150th Birthday.

I also wanted to share that this was my first Etsy Wholesale transaction which is exciting! I was really worried about losing two stores earlier this year but it just goes to show that when one door closes, another one opens and I have to say, I have been happy with how things are going in the Etsy shop the last couple of months.

I really feel like the extra work I've been putting in scheduling my tweets is paying off.  When you work on gaining more views, I think the sales will soon follow, it just requires patience and continue doing the work.

Have a great weekend!

June 2015 Mid-Year Audit

Back in January, I set out my very simple intentions for 2015.  I figured June would be a good time to see where I'm at and if it's even something worth writing a blog post about.

1) Lose Weight - Yeah baby! I am on point with this one!  I surprised myself when I timed myself and came close to jogging for 4 minutes. You don't understand, there was a time when I didn't think I could jog for 2 minutes!

2) Develop Blog - I have been leaning more towards making this blog more about building a business whether it's an online store, blog, freelance, where I share tools I've picked up along the way.  I still share my own shop updates but I think I like where I'm going here.  I may not be posting as much but when I do write a post, I want it to be of value and not just fluff.  Sometimes fluff is okay once in a while.

3) Build Shop - I still have the Storenvy shop and I'm keeping it updated along with the Etsy shop.  I haven't given up on that one.  I added Aftcra to the list of shops but I've been slowly building that.  Importing listings from Etsy is quite easy and it's free!  They only take a commission when you sell an item, which I have not done yet.

Still no sales yet but I have not given this as much attention as I have with Etsy.  While the year was off to a slow start, things really started to pick up in May in Etsy land.

4) Getting rid of stuff - nope. I think we're moving at the end of July. I say "think" because I've said this before  for the last couple of years and we end up staying put.  Don't get me wrong, I do want to move out of this apartment but stay in the Hudson Valley.

I'm glad I kept things simple this year. I'm still writing my e-book which I took a hiatus from because my mind was elsewhere.  I'm trying to get back into now and would like to have it out before the year is over.

Have you made any intentions or set goals at the beginning of the year? Where are you at with that?

Blog ♥ : Links To Check Out

How has June been for your so far? This has been a super busy month so far with a bunch of stuff going on offline, not Pulp Sushi related, I've spared you the details on.  But I still make time to check out my regular blog reads and share some that I really enjoyed reading and think you would like too.

Beacon is just the next town over from where I live and where I took the train out of when I was commuting to the city. I feel really fortunate to live so close to such a hipsterific hot spot.  There are a lot of cool places to check out that's coming, and sometimes going, but I don't see the Beacon hype going away any time soon. If you visit New York but want a change of pace from NYC, take the Metro North up to Beacon and maybe I'll show you around!  In the meantime, here's a great guide from Design Sponge

What are you thoughts on competition? There sure is a lot of it out there.  Speaking from a jewelry stand point, ooooooh boy!  My friend Jess from Knot By Granma embraces competition, and you should too!

This is such a great topic from The Nectar Collective and not talked about much.  We still get caught up with numbers sometimes.  My Twitter is pretty ridiculous where I'll get a few followers a day and the next day they're gone because I didn't follow them back right away.  Don't worry about WHY someone unfollows you, just focus on the people who stay!

Not quite a link but what do you guys think of Instagram's new look?  I'm glad they got rid of the mosaic headers and made the images larger.

New at Pulp Sushi Jewelry

This week I added two new necklaces to the shop mixing old with new. Most of the components from both necklaces come from older pieces. So I took them apart and put my special touch to them.  You can click the image to view the Etsy listings.

While I am at it, I was loooooooong overdue for some new display cards. There was a mixup with Vistaprint at first but they were able to fix it and now I'm super happy with how they came out.

I will punch holes in them for earrings, hair pins, and necklaces. I left a little extra space on top for a reason. They won't fit in my small gift boxes as it is so I will have to take a little off the top. :)

I don't know about you but this felt like a LONG week! I hope you have fun plans this weekend!

Life Lately

I gotta tell you, I really like NOT having a blogging schedule anymore! So much hustling, so many blog planners, so many "347 Tips To Improve Your Blog" and "564 Blog Post Ideas" and "1,739 Ways To Get Visitors To Your Blog" AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!

I just want to tell the Internet to SHUT UP!   If I'm only going to post once a week then that's what I'm gonna do! High five?? :)

My friend was having a yard sale over the weekend. She and her family were moving to California and trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible. While I went to say goodbye, I did find some neat little things that are waiting to be reborn.

I already added a new necklace to the shop this morning but I'm saving that for a "Shop Update" post.

I got some sweet swag from the folks at Buffer after I wrote a post about them.  I'm still using it to tweet out my Etsy items in the middle of the night.  I can't complain about the lack of views anymore at least.  I also can't complain about a free t-shirt!

Oh! And just this morning I got an email from MapMyRun saying I won a $15 gift card for Under Armour.  I recently talked about how MapMyRun is helping me lose weight and get in shape.  I've been entering their different challenges since I started back in November and I finally won a prize, woo!  Here's a shot from a recent Saturday morning walk (taken from my Instagram)...

I'm also doing some other on repacking the shop a little bit which I'll share soon.  I'm having an issue with Vistaprint at the moment but I think they fixed it but we'll see once I get my replacement cards (grr!).

So how has life been treating you lately?
